I Really Dislike Bus Trips…

3 Dec

As yesterday’s post told you, I went to Chicago yesterday on a one-day bus trip.  We were sad because my mom and older sister didn’t go.  My younger sister, Marla, and my daughter, Who Girl, did go.

Bus trips are annoying.  Every year I say it’s the last and then we go again the following year. Next year, we’re going to try and convince my mom to drive to Michigan City and take the commuter train into Chicago for a weekend trip (vs a day).  We’ve done the commuter train before and it worked really nice.

On the bus trip, I get annoyed because we have to stop at the FireKeepers Casino. It reeks of smoke.  I don’t like to lose $$ SO I don’t gamble.  We only stayed for 30 minutes because it was an unannounced visit.  Marla risked $1 and won $11.80.  Wow, right?

Marla's first time...

Winna!

I realize now that I’m “all talk” because I thought I was going to buy, buy, buy at Topshop, H&M and Zara.  I ended up only buying a couple of things and I got those from Free People.

I do love Free People.  I got some bracelets, a sweater and a tank top.  I found them all on the clearance rack.

We walked a ton.  We never use public transportation when we go.  I had my Garmin on but it jumped from 4 to 8 miles within minutes so I no longer trusted it.  I turned it off.  I don’t think it could possibly accurate when you’re going floor to floor in a building that has 2-7 floors in it anyways.

We ate lunch at The Cheesecake Factory.

Big ole' burrito...

Shared Banana Cream and Peppermint Bark cheesecakes. So good.

We visited Christkindlmarket (German American Holiday Market) since my daughter and sister hadn’t been there before.  I always think of my mom when going here because she always loves to get the warm wine in a glass boot there.

We ate at Foodlife for dinner and had a dessert of frozen yogurt at Red Mango for dessert.

Who Girl's done this before.

Marla had 3 samples then decided she was full.

This one was Who Girl's. Mine looked so much better.

AllSaints Spitalfields... Cool but expensive store.

Make A Wish display at Macy's.

My daughter and my sister.

We made it home and crashed by 2am.

I never sleep  in but I managed to sleep til 10:30am this morning.

Once I did get up, I ate horrible.  Besides eating breakfast and lunch within an hour of each other, I stuffed my face with Garrett’s chicago-style popcorn.  I’d eat til I felt ill, take a half hour break and then continue eating the popcorn again til I felt sick.  It was a vicious cycle.  I kept putting off running because I didn’t think my stomach could handle it.

At 2:10pm, I ran 11.75 miles.  My average mile/minute was 8:09.  Not bad, eh?  Before running, I checked the temperature which said 48 degrees.  I couldn’t wait to run in that temperature but once I got going, it felt so much colder than that?!  I realized a little later that I was watching Chicago’s weather because I forgot to switch back (I use The Weather Channel app on my Iphone).  I think the actual temperature was about 40 but felt in the mid 30’s?!   I was pretty cold by the time I made it home.

Who Girl and I went to the Irish Pub for dinner.

Lovin' my jean jacket.

After eating, we did more shopping (near the mall).  I found a cute outfit at Express and some really cute high knee socks at DSW (one pair was Smartwool).   I scored a super cute one piece scarf from American Eagle (25% until tomorrow if you use your AE credit card).

Came home and watched some pre-recorded Chopped episodes.

Today flew by.

Chicago!!!

2 Dec

Yep, I’m in Chicago.  And yes, I’m freezing because I always underdress.

Prozac For My Cat?!

11 Jul

Woke up and dressed for a great run at about 5:30am.  I was sooo not into it (same ole story, I know).  I made myself go anyways.  Ran down the driveway and about a quarter of a mile and said, “F*ck this!”.   I don’t want to hate my runs so I stopped and went home.  I knew that I would have to suffer the heat by running later.

Caught myself in one of my childish 6 year old stances.  When taking the dogs out this morning, I noticed some bees coming in and out of a crack on the edge of my garage.  Insects have always mystified me so of course I had to get a better look.  I’m in the squat position like a little skid (in my work dress) looking and watching the busy bees for way longer than I should have.  I worry about the animals and my kids, so I had to spray them but amused at myself for how ridiculous I must of looked.

Okay, so here’s a prime example of my making a beach dress, a work dress.  This is a “moo moo” dress, ferr sherr…

And here’s me at work (hoping no one heard my camera’s self timer — embarrassing….)

Ate leftover salad for breakfast — spinach, orange bell pepper, chickpeas, ramen noodles, tortilla strips and poppy seed dressing.  I personally don’t care for breakfast food so I really enjoyed my salad.

I joke that I feel like I live in a barn sometimes.  We have 4 cats and 2 dogs.  All goes well with all of our fur balls except for ONE.  Our tortie cat will pee sometimes.  We keep clean litter boxes and she’s been treated for bladder infections (not knowing if she even had one) and we’ve had her sedated so they could x-ray her to see if there were any abnormalties.  All’s well, healthwise.  I love this cat but I can’t have urine in my house — nasty.  I’ve diagnosed her as being a “Nervous Nellie” so we’re going to drug her.  We’re trying liquid Prozac.  I so hope this works.

WARNING: Random thought…. I cannot stand that Sandra Lee from Food Network and her stupid “tablescapes”.

After work, came home to a humanless house.  Roo’s off working for his dad again.  Brucee is at the house that his sister, The Who, is house sitting  (little backwards that Brucee was doing the sitting when Who was at her job, I know).  Just sat at home waiting for the rain to stop probably getting “Toasted Skin Syndrome” from the laptop.  I could have jumped on the treadmill but I knew I was going to run outside eventually.

The skies cleared up and the temp dropped to 73 degrees, a svetty 73 degrees.  At 4pm, I started and ended up running 9 miles w/a 8:19 average pace.  The temp had climbed to a very, very svetty and humid 79 degrees by the time I finished.

Poor Mick came home from work and I was ready to start pestering him about going shopping.  After he did his workout, we went to the Mall.  The boys went to the cafe and I went on the hunt for a dress for the wedding on Friday.   Low and behold, I found not a dress but a strapless pantsuit.  It’s by the brand, “Bar III” and it wasn’t too expensive.  Cute shoes to match.  And I found a dress for work as a bonus (yeah me).

Mick found the jacket he was looking for (Calvin Klein), a shirt and some new shoes.  He said all this was for his birthday (17th) but I’ll get him something else cause that’s no fun….

Today was a success!! Home, home, home and off to bed….

Fun Day!

18 Jun

Proud.  I woke up today at 6:30 and ran 10 miles.  Ha!  yes, I ran 10 miles (such disbelief).  Never done that before so I was pretty geeked.

I came back home to a very quiet house.  Made some oatmeal and took a magazine out on the back deck.   Lovely, lovely, lovely.

My boys both had tryouts for the local premiere soccer league from 1-3pm so my daughter and I dropped them off and ran up to the mall.  I ended up making arrangements for my husband to pick up the boys because I knew I wouldn’t make it back from the mall by 3pm.

I had to return a sports bra Dicks Sporting Goods.   I felt the need to fill that void from the return so we did some shopping too.

You can’t see it but my shirt says, “Physical Fitness” and has an obese “Gym Coach” on it.  Cracks me up.  Oxymoron, right?!

It was hot out but the stores were nice and cool.  Fun, fun.  My daughter is a stinker — she makes me laugh.  I really enjoy doing things with her.  I miss her when she’s gone to college.  She majoring Biomedical Sciences and wants to be a pharmacist.  I kind of smother her when she’s home for the summer.  She’s a good sport about it.

She’s giving me the “stink eye” because she didn’t appreciate the picture op that I wanted to capture.   Also, she really just wanted to go into the next store.

We needed a snack, so we ran into Mcallister’s Deli.  A lemonade for me and a sodee for her.  She had to get a cookie too.  Love their lemonade.

Ran to DSW and bought 2 pairs of really cute shoes….

Really good price and I can’t wait to wear them.

Raced home to meet up w/the fam because we planned on leaving at 4:15 to go to a couple high school graduations for some friends’ kids.  Wore a new outfit…

I liked the super long skirt w/the simple turquoise tank but my daughter stepped in and said the tank, by itself,  was inappropriate for going out to the open houses.  So, she helped by providing me w/the little half tank to wear over it.  Too much but the husband was very ready to leave the house so no time to change.

Not sure if everyone does the high school open houses but they’re big here in Michigan.  I was surprised to find out that they don’t do them in New Jersey (my friend who’s from NJ told me this)?!

I was pretty much done for the night but was invited to go to the movie, Midnight in Paris w/my friend and our two daughters.  I personally don’t care for Woody Allen movies but I actually liked this one.  I think it was because Owen Wilson was in it.

Tired, so tired.  I need to go to bed but wanted to brag about my 10 miles.  No, not brag, just record my accomplishment.  Makes me want to keep it up so I can document my online journal.
