Wegener’s Granulomatosis

2 Jan
I never went into detail about what happened to my dad.  My dad wasn’t feeling like himself for about three months but kept that to himself until October 2011 when he got very ill due to his kidneys failing.  All of the specialists seemed to be baffled.  It seemed hopeless.
I found out the doctors had a name for what had been troubling my dad on October 16, 2011.  Actually, it was right after I finished my first marathon that I had a phone text waiting for me from my little sister with what I thought was fantastic news.  I thought, “thank goodness, my dad can start getting better now that the doctors knew what he was fighting”.
He had an auto immune disease called Wegener’s granulomatosis.
That relief was short-lived.
My dad had a stroke due to complications from a kidney biopsy on Tuesday, October 18th and ultimately died on Monday, October 24th 2011.
If my dad would have lived, he would have suffered horribly because of that disease.  He was a great man.  He was wonderful to my mom, my sisters, our families and our community.  He will be greatly missed.  His absence hurts.
Today was his birthday.  He would have been 63 years old.
Miss you Dad…
